Captain, what an odd title to be called. She'd been called all manner of titles in the past but this was the first one that brought any form of comfort to her, though she didn't believe she was of captain quality the comradery in the word left her with a warm feeling in body, content and happy. Aurora waved back towards the crowd slightly, but she knew this was Brandy's moment so she didn't hog much of the stage, a background extra if anything. Trust, all of the villagers and Brandy had placed it in her, and Aurora only hoped she would be capable of living up to that trust, worthy of respect they held for her no matter how small. As the island got further and further away Aurora felt that warm feeling stay, she never had this experience, perhaps one day if she found a place to call home and had to sail away for a time they too would treat her to this scene? That's a goal to strive for.
...
Aurora relaxed on the deck, feet up in a chair she simply counted the clouds in the sky as the boat gently rocked towards it's destination, the wind guiding them in the correct path. Brandy finally spoke to her, it was a nice change from the quiet, "I can't say I have, I only paid attention to islands that related to my next directive. Don't have much enjoyable free time when you are undercover or attacking people. Why, you want to sail there at some point?" The question was innocent enough, if only Aurora knew the implication of how the question she might not have asked it.

Brandy visibly flinched a bit at Aurora's question, her hand wincing back as it laid on the side of the ship. Right. She shouldn't expect the destruction of Sirona Haven to be common knowledge. It would be ridiculous with how long it took for news to spread. There were probably a lot of islands who were lost to the sands of time. Still, a part of her held hurt by the thought of it sinking to the depths of obscurity. To her, it was the most important day of her life. To the World Government, it was a Tuesday. Despite the somber thoughts Brandy kept her smile. "No. Even if I wanted I don't think there's really anything left to sail back to. It was my home, the island I grew up on back in the New World. It was a large land owned by a kingdom, ruled for generations by my family. We were a rebellious nation. We prided ourselves on our Independence. We even had a tradition where the heir to the throne would have to travel the world and form their own crew before they were allowed to rule. We were all about freedom. The World Government didn't like that. We were found guilty of conspiracy, so the island was Buster Called." The doctor's saddened expression returned and her eyes fell to the ocean. "I lost my family that night. My father, my mother, my sister, my people. I only survived because of their sacrifices. I ran away. I was found by one of our butlers out at sea. We tried to get to safety but a band of pirates cornered us. They killed him and took me to be sold off for slavery. I fell sick on their boat, almost died. But luckily the ship was raided by a rival crew. They helped me, took me to the professor. He nursed me back to health. The rest is history." It was hard to put everything into words. She didn't like to talk about her experiences, she didn't even like to think about them. They were too painful. But recently it seemed as though she was being forced to face them again, the ghosts of the past. It was probably about time they were put to rest, now that she was moving forward.
Brandy forced a smile and looked back to the navigator, not wanting Aurora to feel bad or awkward for asking. "Sorry for the heavy nature. You told me your past, I figured I'd tell you mine. It's only fair."

It was at moments like this that Aurora was thankful she could hide behind a cloud of ignorance in apology. Buster called, that explained the marine hatred on the surface level. The big bad tyrants who blow up anything they deem as horrible, it wasn't the truth and most of the time a buster call is issued it is for one or two 'important' reasons, but the marines are the face they merely carry out the order, there are five who order it so, or a fool who hit the wrong button on a golden Den Den. Aurora really hoped it wasn't the later. "Well you are still here, so that's something. The new world though? Explains some of your strength, that place isn't easy to survive in at all." she paused before continuing, "I didn't just mean physical strength but mental, that takes a lot to live through, hurts you badly, I get why you don't like the marines now, but if your island loved to be free and independents then it wasn't the marines who cared. it was them, the ones who sit atop the line. The ones who claim to be gods and dragons." Aurora scoffed at it, the very idea of such foolishness made her laugh, to claim divinity when you could die was foolish, to claim lordship over others of the world even more so, no one possesses that much power alone.
"I also get why you hate pirates so much as well, some of them are truly evil and it's why the marines are viewed as heroes to many people, and many marines sign up to help, to save lives rather then rule over the seas like a tyrant. So in the end, maybe it's just people that are bad not one true organization or label of them, huh?" Aurora sighed deeply, "Thinking out loud, sorry. It's fine to say your past, but don't push yourself, okay? You don't owe me an explanation of anything especially if it's hard for you, or you feel the need to say sorry after recounting what had happened to you. If anything I'm the one who should be sorry, and I am, so it's why I move forward. You get all messed up by the world government and pirates and you say sorry? Bill was right you need to get out here." Aurora stretched, "Look, I'm sure the next place we visit will be full of jerks who want to rule everything, who have a small foolish mindset and are a big threat. We beat them up and move on, save some people in the process, probably get discovered by the world government, labeled as pirates for doing good deeds and then keep living our lives. It's all we can do, and we do it together for the thrill of the adventure." Aurora's calm grinning face turned towards brandy, "I didn't mean for that to rhyme."

Aurora made sense. Of course to any sane person with a lick of critical thinking skills they would logically conclude that not every person in a group based around the righteous protection of others would be bad. Quite the opposite. Not every apple in a barrel was rotten. But not every person had spent their lives so wreathed in hated and anger for one group that even seeing their flag on a marine ship was enough to put a bad taste in her mouth. Hatred was the easy option. Forgiving was harder. "You can still defend them even after everything you've been through? I don't know how. You're far stronger than I am. It may be true, the marines are dogs chained by their masters, but they're still following the orders of madmen no matter how good natured some of them may be. At least you broke free, they're still eating treats out their hands instead of drawing blood at the source of their misery." There was a clear bitterness behind Brandy's words. At least with pirates a lot were outwardly evil. The marines just played pretend heroes. Fakes. If pirates were directly opposed to the world government perhaps she had split her dislike too evenly.
The doctor looked back to the last fading bits of Lantern Island, a hard look on her face as she leaned on the side of the ship. "If being labeled as pirates means we're against being leashed by uncaring masters than so be it. We're pirates." Never thought she'd say that.
