Devil Fruits Guide
Overview: Fruits with mysterious properties that grant anyone who eats them unique and often supernatural powers. Some find their body turned into rubber, while others can turn into fire, control string, and even return from the dead. Regardless of the power acquired it is rare that eating a devil fruit would ever make an individual weaker, for even powers that might seem weak could become quite powerful depending on the fruit’s user. There is one downside to consuming a fruit however, as whomever eats a fruit can no longer swim, and will sink to the bottom of the ocean should they try to, thusly why they are called devil fruits as it was said a sea devil cursed them with this weakness. In any case, the full capabilities of Devil Fruits will be explored down below:
Acquiring a Devil Fruit: Characters, story wise, need to consume a Devil Fruit in order to gain it’s powers for themselves. Mechanically Characters need to purchase the Devil Fruit consumption Perk to acquire a Devil Fruit, the method of which is described in the Perk itself.
Effects of Devil Fruit: No Effects caused by a Devil Fruit can be permanent/long lasting, example: turning a Characters into a toy. Only if the Player of a Character who was affected by the Devil Fruit specifically states it is okay to have the effect be permanent/long lasting then can the effect be permanent/long lasting. The Player of the Character affected by the Devil Fruit can at any time decide to no longer have the effect be Permanent/long lasting.
True and Artificial Devil Fruits: While there are multiple Categories of Devil Fruits, here on Blue Abyss we have two different Types of Devil Fruits: True Devil Fruits and Artificial Devil Fruits. Mechanically, they are not different from each other, the only difference being that True Devil Fruits are ones found in the world and will enter the reincarnation cycle when their users pass on, while Artificial Devil Fruits were created in labs or via other unnatural means and do not enter the reincarnation cycle after their users pass on. Artificial Devil Fruits have been perfected, unlike the SMILES of canon, though are costly (in both berries and resources to make) and are thusly still rare. The true purpose of this difference is to allow for multiple users of the same Devil Fruit to exist on the forum, and to not limit the creativity of players.
Custom Devil Fruits: Feel free to create Custom Devil Fruits with fun concepts, try not to just take a Canon Devil Fruit and make it more “special” but something a tad more original. All this said, Inspiration is fine, making a blue fire-fire fruit or green phoenix fruit isn’t as fine. When creating your Devil Fruit there are three areas that must be considered, which are listed below:
Devil Fruit Categories: Paramecia/Special Paramecia, Zoan (Standard, Ancient, or Mythical), or Logia? This will determine what Categorical Qualities the Devil Fruit will have access to both upon acquiring, and after awakening. The Categories are described in detailed below:
Paramecia: Paramecia are the most common category of devil fruit and contain the widest array of abilities out of the three categories. One’s body could turn into rubber, or one could create string, or one could even come back from the dead, Paramecia’s only true limitation is ingenuity. While some might originally see Paramecia abilities as weaker than Zoan or Logia, a clever user of a paramecia is often more of a threat than either of the types mentioned, as their abilities are so unpredictable that it can often catch opponents unaware. There is but one subcategory to Paramecia, and it is as follows:
Special Paramecia: The only noted difference between Paramecia and Special Paramecia is that Special Paramecia possess the same elemental body ability as Logia do, however Special Paramecia are classified as such because they are of a man-made substance and not a naturally occurring element.
Zoan: Zoan grant their users the capacity to transform into an animal. This transformation comes in forms, with the most common amount being two, that are as follows: Basic, The user appears as normal, Hybrid the user appears as a mixture between their normal appearance and the animal they can transform into, and beast which allows them to assume the full form of the beast they can transform into. The standard Zoan allows one to turn into an animal that is alive and well in the modern day, but there are two other classifications of Zoan fruits that enable the user to transform into other types of animals, as detailed below:
Ancient Zoan: Ancient Zoan’s enable the user to transform into extinct animals, from dinosaurs to mammoths and so on; Clever girl.
Mythical Zoan: Mythical Zoan’s allow the user to transform into creatures of myth. Examples are that of a phoenix, or a Buddha. One interesting note about this type of Zoan is that it is the rarest of all Devil Fruits.
Logia: Logia are the second rarest type of Devil Fruit, the first being Mythical Zoan, but are certainly some of the most feared. Logia fruit users can create, control, and transform their bodies into a naturally occurring element matching that of a fruit they consumed. Notable examples are fire, darkness, and ice. Horrifying to those unprepared Logia can seemingly dodge any attack thrown their way, though this isn’t true to those untrained in the art of Haki or not wielding sea stone Logia fruits seem insurmountable in their strength. Said Strength, however, can become a weakness as many Logia users in the past become arrogant and don’t realize that there are powers out there which can bring great harm to a foolish Logia user, and many of them have paid the ultimate price for this lack of forethought.
Downsides of Devil Fruits: All Character who have consumed a Devil Fruit find that they can no longer swim, get weaker the more of their body is submerged in water, and find that Sea Stone has gone from a rare amusement to a lethal threat. All Characters who have the Devil Fruit Consumption Perk also gain the following Perk:
Perk Name: Curse of the Sea Devil
Requirements: Character possesses the Devil Fruit Consumption Perk.
Perk Ranks: 0
Cost: 0 Perk Points
Effect: Those who eat a devil fruit can no longer swim. When the Character is submerged to the point of their waist being almost underwater then the Character will be unable to utilize any Techniques that utilize a Devil Fruit as one of the Basis and Fighting Styles will lose all bonuses that originate from their Devil Fruit. When the Character is submerged to the point of their torso being almost underwater then in addition to the previous effects, they will suffer -1 to all Attributes. Characters completely submerged are unable to move and sink at a slow but steady pace. When the Character is struck by Sea Stone they suffer -1 to all Attributes for 1 Round.
Devil Fruit Physiology: All Devil Fruits affect the users body in some way, be it turning into an element, being hard to cut, turning into rubber etc. In this section, is a list of Physiologies for Characters to select from to represent how their Devil Fruit has affected their body. Importantly, this allows for Characters who have eaten the same Devil Fruit to show how it affected them and/or how they have grown to use their abilities; this can be especially noteworthy between True and Artificial Fruit users.
All Characters with the Devil Fruit Consumption perk gain one additional Fighting Style to represent their Devil Fruits capabilities. This Fighting Style may only Utilize the Devil Fruit Fighting Style Aspects listed below, unless the Character has taken the Martial Excellence Perk or is of the Oni Species and must have the Devil Fruit the Character possesses listed under the Basis section. The Fighting Style may not select the same Devil Fruit Fighting Style Aspect more than once. If the Character has selected the Martial Excellence Perk/is of the Oni Species, then the first Fighting Style Aspect Chosen must still be from the Devil Fruit Fighting Style Aspects, but further Aspects may be from the Devil Fruit Fighting Style Aspects List or the Custom Fighting Style Aspects List.
Additionally, depending on the category of Devil Fruit Consumed they gain one of two Benefits. Whenever a Character gains the Devil Fruit Awakening Perk, they may select another Custom Fighting Style Aspect to apply to their Fighting Style for their Devil Fruit and may select one of the two Awakened Benefits.
Devil Fruit Fighting Style Aspects:
Devil Fruit Aspect Name: Strange Manipulation
Effect: The Character can manipulate themselves, Objects, or the environment in strange and unnatural ways. Any Techniques with an unmodified Power Level of 3 or lower, with the Damage Category, may be enhanced with the Characters powers, requiring 1 additional Reaction point to Dodge/Block the Technique. This may be done several times a Round equal to half the Characters Tier rounded down to a maximum of 3.
Devil Fruit Aspect Name: Temperature Manipulation
Effect: The Character can manipulate the temperature around or within their own body in mild or extreme degrees. While creating a Technique in either the Damage and/or Defense Category, the Character may add the Damage Over Time Effect to them without the Techniques Counting as an Effect Technique or a multiple Category Technique. This may be done up to half the Characters Tier, to a maximum of 3. This Damage Over Time Effect cannot be modified positively by Perks, traits, etc. the Character possesses. Techniques created this way cannot themselves be Multiple Category Techniques.
Devil Fruit Aspect Name: Material Consumption
Effect: The Character in some way consumes or absorbs material around them to power their abilities. Increase the Melee Damage and Ranged Damage of all the Characters Damage Category Techniques by +5 and increase the Damage Resistance Provided by all Defense Category Techniques by +5% when 1 Consumable Material General Equipment is Utilized during the Round.
Devil Fruit Aspect Name: Material Production
Effect: The Character produces some form of Material from their body or around them that control. The Character may always count as having the Repair tools General Equipment and/or the Ammo Crate General Equipment (Pick one per triggering of challenge), for any Adventure. Additionally, Effect Techniques that Positively affect the character (Buffs, Acceleration, etc.) increase their Duration by 1 Round, to a maximum of 4 Rounds.
Devil Fruit Aspect Name: Energy Production
Effect: The Character produces some kind of Energy around their body or from their abilities. The Character may decrease the Utilization cost of Techniques in the Effect Category, with an unmodified Power Level of 3 or lower, by -1, to a minimum of 1.
Devil Fruit Aspect Name: Healing Factor
Effect: The Character in some way heals the bodies, souls, and/or minds of others utilizing their devil fruit. The Character may create Techniques with the Healing Category in the fighting style with this Aspect.
Devil Fruit Aspect Name: Minions
Effect: The Character summons some form of being to utilize as minions under their control. The Character may Utilize the Rare Effect Summoning and decrease the utilization Cost of Summoning Techniques by -1, to a minimum of 1.
Devil Fruit Aspect Name: Hammer Space
Effect: The Character may store a multitude of different items within their body. The Character increases their General Equipment Point limit by +5 per every Tier they are above Tier 1, to a maximum of +25. The Character may Utilize Defensive Category Techniques for -1 Utilization cost less, to a minimum of 1.
Devil Fruit Aspect Name: Devil Fruit Flight
Effect: The Character may in some way fly. The Character may spend 1 additional Reaction Point to Dodge during a Round. The Character may decrease the Utilization cost of any Technique with an Unmodified Power Level of 3 or lower, with the Damage Category by 1 to a minimum of 1.
Devil Fruit Benefits:
Paramecia/Special Paramecia: The Character gains the Versatile Power Benefit, or in the case of a Special Paramecia the Character may gain the Elemental Body Benefit instead:
Name: Versatile Power
Effect: The Characters Devil Fruit Fighting Style may Utilize 1 Custom Fighting Style Aspect in addition to the Devil Fruit Fighting Style Aspect. A Character cannot have the same Custom Aspect Selected on the same Fighting Style more then once.
Name: Elemental Body
Effect: Special Paramecia Only; The Character may Dodge up to Half their Tier (to a maximum of 3) Basic Attacks directed towards them or that would hit them. The Character may Dodge Techniques they would be hit by for -1 Reaction Point, to a minimum of 1. These effects don’t apply to any Basic Attacks or Techniques Infused with Armament Haki or which utilize Sea Stone in some way.
Zoan: The Character gains the Base Form, Hybrid Form, and Beast Form Benefit:
Name: Base Form
Effect: The form the Character was born with, in this form their receive +10 to all Melee Damage both Physical/Mental. This effect carries over into any Hybrid form they assume or their Full form they assume.
Name: Hybrid Form
Effect: A half form between the Characters natural form and the Zoan’s animal form. Grants +1 to any chosen (when the fruit is eaten) Attribute while the form is active. This increase doesn’t count against the limit of +1 maximum to an attribute.
Name: Beast Form
Effect: The Character fully transforms into the Zoan’s Animal form. Grants +1 to any chosen (when the fruit is eaten) Attribute while the form is active. This increase doesn’t count against the limit of +1 maximum to an attribute.
Logia: Grants the Character the Elemental Body Benefit:
Name: Elemental Body
Effect: The Character may Dodge up to Half their Tier (to a maximum of 3) Basic Attacks directed towards them or that would hit them. The Character may Dodge Techniques they would be hit by for -1 Reaction Point, to a minimum of 1. These effects don’t apply to any Basic Attacks or Techniques Infused with Armament Haki or which utilize Sea Stone in some way.
Devil Fruit Awakening: When a user of a Devil Fruit learns all the secrets that their fruit holds and goes to take the next step, that is when a Devil Fruit is considered to be awakened. Awakened devil fruits enhance the user’s capabilities further than many would believe possible, creating whole new avenues for the user to explore when it comes to combat and other Qualities of their life.
Awakening a Devil Fruit is done after completing at minimum 3 Adventures while having the Devil Fruit Consumption Perk, and then being at least Tier 4, and taking the Devil Fruit Awakening Perk. Once a Devil Fruit is awakened, The Character gains one of the following Devil Fruit Benefits listed below based on their Devil Fruits Category. In addition, Characters also may select one additional Devil Fruit Fighting Style Aspect, that they have not already selected, upon Awakening their Devil Fruit, the list of which was shown previously in this guide. This Devil Fruit Fighting Style Aspect does not use up a Fighting Style Aspect slot.
Paramecia/Special Paramecia Awakening Qualities: The Character gains one of the following:
Name: Environmental Influence
Effect: The Character reduces the Usage cost of a number of Techniques with a Power Level of 3 or lower equal to the Characters Tier, to a maximum of 6, utilized in Fighting Styles that have a Devil Fruit as one of its basis, by 1, to a minimum of 1.
Name: Perfected Power
Effect: The Character reduces the purchase cost of all techniques, of level 3 or lower, utilized in Fighting Styles that have Devil Fruit as one of its basis, by 1, to a minimum of 1. In addition, the Characters increases their Physical Melee/Ranged Damage by +5, and Mental Melee/Ranged Damage by +5.
Name: Elemental Body
Effect: Special Paramecia only; The Elemental Body can now dodge 1 Additional Basic Attack a Round, following the same rules for the previous ability. In addition, increase the Characters Physical Melee/Ranged Damage by +5, and their Mental Melee/Ranged Damage by +5.
Zoan Awakening Qualities: The Character Gains one of the Following:
Name: Form Mastery
Effect: The Character gains 2 additional hybrid forms for their Zoan. Each of these Forms can grant +1 to different Attributes than were originally chosen. In addition, all Techniques with a Level of 3 or lower have their Purchase Cost reduced by 1 to a minimum of 1.
Name: Bestial Visage
Effect: The Character reduces the purchase cost of all techniques, of level 3 or lower, utilized in Fighting Styles that have Devil Fruit as one of its basis, by 1, to a minimum of 1. In addition the Characters increases their Melee Damage by +10, Physical or Mental whichever applies.
Logia Awakening Qualities: The Character gains the following:
Name: Elemental Body Mastery
Effect: The Elemental Body can now dodge 1 Additional Basic Attack a Round, following the same rules for the previous ability. In addition, increase the Characters Physical Melee/Ranged Damage by +5, and their Mental Melee/Ranged Damage by +5.
Name: Elemental Environment
Effect: The Character decreases the Purchase Cost and Usage Cost of all Techniques, utilized in Fighting Styles that have a Devil Fruit as one of its basis, by 1, to a minimum of 1.
